Dr. Alford’s Expertise | DEI
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) within organizations have evolved from a mere departmental initiative to a core aspect of the cultural transformation of an organization. Diversity represents the demographic mix of people (including those from marginalized or underrepresented groups). Equity refers to eliminating system barriers that inhibit full participation and equal access to opportunities. Inclusion is creating a work culture in which individuals can participate fully because system barriers have been removed. Getting DEI right requires significant insight, personal experience, and commitment. An inclusive journey requires organizations and their leaders to undergo their transformation. Thus, an effective DEI strategy will involve organizational leaders acknowledging past DEI failures and, most critically, implementing immediate and evidence-based structural changes essential for creating a more just and equitable workplace.
